Lecture One: Tragic Heroes and Their Flaws

One of my favorite lectures is when we learned about tragic heroes and their main flaws within literature. The play "Antigone" is about a girl named Antigone, who is ultimately the tragic hero in the story. In this lecture, we made a Ven-diagram with the various characteristics of tragic heroes. They are typically born into mobility, responsible for their own fate, and meet with a tragic death. There is typically self-awareness in what All of these characteristics relate to Antigone. Within this lecture, we also learned about Altruistic vs. Egoistic and Fate vs. Freewill. When a person is altruistic, they are generous and selfless; on the other hand, egoistic people are prideful and narcissistic. The king within the play was very egoistic and cared about power. He sentenced Antigone to death, although they were technically related. This lecture taught me the different character traits a person may hold. It also gave me insight on to stand on your morals, just as Antigone did. The play overall was very fascinating and turned out to be one of my favorites that I have read.
